Interval & Chord Trainer

You already hear the difference. Naming it instantly is what separates transcribing a part in ten minutes from losing an afternoon to it.

Two tests, one game. Train your ears on intervals — 2nds through the octave, ascending, descending or harmonic — and chord qualities — major, minor, diminished, augmented and 7ths. Earn XP, level up your rank, keep a daily streak. Warm Rhodes-style synthesis, in your browser.

space play, and after an answer it deals the next set of notes — a miss costs one extra press that replays what it actually was, so you never move on without hearing it · R root · N skip · 1–9 pick answer · H reveal. Adaptive widens the set after 2 right in a row and narrows after a miss. Tip: sing the two notes back — it's the fastest way to lock a harmonic interval.

QuestionsNeon Audio
Should I learn intervals or chord qualities first?

Intervals. A chord is a stack of intervals, so the interval test builds the thing the chord test then asks you to hear several of at once. If chord quality feels like guessing, drop back to intervals for a week and it usually stops being guesswork.

What do ascending, descending and harmonic mean?

Ascending plays the lower note then the higher one; descending plays them the other way round; harmonic plays both together. They are genuinely different skills — most people find descending intervals hardest — so the trainer scores them separately and Mixed rotates between all three.

What is the Root button for?

It plays the bottom note of the pair on its own. An interval is a distance between two notes, not a sound of its own, so naming one means knowing where you are measuring from — the Root button is that fixed point. Play it, hum it back, then play the question and listen to how far the other note sits from it. In a descending interval, that bottom note is the one you hear second. Leaning on it is not cheating: judging a note against a root you already know is how people actually work things out by ear. Once it starts feeling easy, set Key context to Cadence — the trainer then plays a short chord sequence first, so the question sits inside a key instead of floating on its own.

How much does it cost?

The demo rounds are free with no signup. The full trainer — every interval and chord type, adaptive difficulty and progress tracking — unlocks with your email address. Everything runs in your browser.
